Lynn's "Neon Light"

"Liberty Enlightening the World"

Micah chose this week's challenge and after going through list after list on our old challenge site he picked "neon".  I thought it was going to be a tough challenge as neon lights are just not all that plentiful here in Maine.  Well, as luck would have it, Lady Liberty just happened to be having dinner at the same restaurant I was at the other night.  She took a break from Enlightening the World and grabbed a burger at Red Robin in Augusta before heading back to NYC. And yes, she did have "french" fries with that because she was born in Paris in 1881, after all!

The challenge was "miniatures", so I wanted to shoot a special "BELL" for my friend Lynn, one she would cherish...

So here are my "miniatures" with the special "BELL"

Lynn's Miniature

                                "West Quoddy Nesters"

Our challenge was to create a scene using small miniature objects.  My foreground, the Atlantic Ocean, is a blue bath towel with a few waves photoshopped in from an actual picture of waves at West Quoddy Head.  Then I added some "smudge tool" creativity to blend out the cloth detail.  The rock is just a rock in my back yard and took the birds from my shelf and placed them in the front of the scene for perspective.  The day was cold and rainy when I shot the miniature so it needed a nice fall sky.  I had shot this sky at the high school about a week ago.  I just pulled those clouds into the background behind the little miniature West Quoddy Head Lighthouse using photoshop.  This challenge was way too much fun!

Micah's Miniature

"Old Salty at Pepper Light"

I chose the salt & pepper shakers for my miniature scenery. I set the shakers on a rock in Lynn's  backyard. The ocean is a towel on the ground. I use the smudge tool to make the waves. Old Salty is watching the sunset from the east coast. The sunlight goes through Pepper Light's windows to make a reflection on the ocean surface.  I learned that I can use anything, even common household items to make any kind of scene if I use my imagination. I learned about the direction of light and how to change the bright daylight on the rocks and figures to reflect the glow of the sunset on the highlights in the rock.
