Old Barns ~ Lynn

Houdini

The Neighborhood Stray Maine Coon Cat

Our new challenge this week is "Old Barns".  I am sure this wasn't the exact shot you had in mind when you chose the category I bet, but today I was leaving my neighbor's house after dropping off a Valentine for her and happened to look up and this is what I saw peeking out from the top of the open barn in her yard.

Houdini is what she calls him.  One minute you look and he is there, then the next he disappears without a trace.  He has lived in our neighborhood for several years but won't move in with any of us.  He is loved and well fed by the whole neighborhood but has chosen to eat most of the time with my neighbor Phyllis.  Every once in a while he will even let her pat the top of his head.  He is a huge boy with a gorgeous shaggy coat and the most beautiful eyes.  We think he is the father to many of the beautiful Maine Coon kittens that are found stray in the neighborhood each year.  If we could get near him we would have him fixed and updated on his shots but no one has ever been able to get close to him.  No one knows where he spends the cold winter nights or the hot summer days but he is much loved and many neighborhood phone calls have started with..."Have you seen Houdini today?".

Today, this is how I saw him.

Barn on the Mantor Road in Madison, Maine.  I loved the old barrel out front in snow.

Mantor Sheep Barn

When I look out of the window at class, this is a small view of the hill beyond.  The barn is filled with sheep that roam over the hill and come down in front of the window where they drink from a small pond.  Today there were two baby black sheep playing in the snow but they went back to the barn before I could take their picture.   Maybe next week they wont be so shy?
